Postural advice, prescriptive homework/exercises and progress exams are also a primary component of ongoing care.
Dr Felicity is adept at prescribing and modifying care schedules for patients to gain the desired results in the quickest time. It is not a one-size-fits-all and outcomes are consistently monitored. She is dedicated to achieving the health goals of her patients and takes a holistic approach. When she is not in clinic Felicity enjoys spending time with her three dogs, gardening, rejuvenating at the beach and listening to Elvis tunes.
Dr Fiona Couchman
started seeing a chiropractor from the age of 8 when her family settled on the Gold Coast. Her parents found a chiropractor for the whole family to see and would go every month for a regular ‘check-up’, and also before school exams and sporting events, just to give the body a tune-up. “When we were sick, the first appointment we’d have was always with the chiropractor. Chiropractic has been a part of my life and my own health care routine for such a long time; it really was just a natural extension of my own chiropractic experience, to become a chiropractor.”
Dr Fiona completed a BioMedical Science degree at Griffith University on the Gold Coast, graduating in 2000, then relocating to Sydney to study her Master of Chiropractic at Macquarie University, where she graduated in 2003. Dr Fiona has worked in a number of clinics over the years since finishing study, in family chiropractic clinics in Brisbane, as well as operating her own clinic for a couple of years. She has performed locums all over Australia, from a remote mining town in North West WA, to small beach communities along the East Coast.
Dr Fiona has clinical experience seeing people of all ages and has a special interest in the chiropractic care of infants, kids, and pregnant/post-partum mums. She possesses a particular interest in newborns and feeding-related issues, as well as the neurodevelopmental processes occurring throughout childhood.
Utilising a number of techniques including a range of low force adjusting approaches, and also drawing upon spinal manipulative therapy to achieve desired outcomes for clients – her treatment is always tailored to suit the individual patient age, body type, condition and technique preferences. She also prescribes home-care advice and exercises to help improve posture and progress.
Dr Fiona’s ongoing professional development includes attendance at seminar/workshop training on a diverse range of topics including: Paediatric Care, Neurology, Radiology, Rehabilitation, Posture, and Nutrition.
“What I enjoy about being a Chiropractor is helping people understand more about the interconnectedness of all the components of the human body, and how the brain-body connection is so important for optimal healthy functioning. It really is satisfying to help people on their health journey in life.”
Outside of being a Chiropractor, Dr Fiona enjoys bike riding, yoga, and hiking (especially multi-day hiking with a back pack!).
